According to the mode of transmission in the fiber of the optical fiber, there are two main categories: single -mode and multi -mode. The mode usually refers to the transmission path of the optical signal in the optical fiber. The size of the single -mode fiber is generally 8 ~ 10um. In the single mode, the signal is spread along the line, which is a mode. The multi -mode fibrous core is relatively large, 50um or 62.5um, which can be transmitted at the same time.
Single -mode transmission bandwidth and high transmission distance are mainly used for long -distance networks such as optical fiber, subway, and roads. However, because the single -mode fiber core is relatively small, it is necessary to accurately connect to the transmitter, so as to be coupled to a higher light source. This makes the price of other accessories of single -mode optical fiber network system increased, and the price of single -mode light transmitters is much more expensive than multi -mode. When using a single -mode connector for end connection, pay attention to accurate docking, otherwise it will generate a high -value insertion loss and reduce the optical fiber transmission performance.


The multi -mode can be mainly used to meet the transmission of short -distance networks. In fact, multi -mode optical fiber can support vertical subsystem wiring and short -range building group subsystem wiring within 550 meters of the Mall of Ethernet, as well as data center wiring within 150 meters of 40G/100G network. In addition, the photoelectric conversion element of the multi -mode optical system is cheaper than the single mode, and the on -site installation and end connection are simpler.
